FAQs

Are BHA and Salicylic Acid the same thing?

Salicylic Acid is a naturally occurring beta hydroxy acid (BHA) found in white willow bark. A BHA is a chemical exfoliant used in skincare to improve skin texture, reduce hyperpigmentation and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

What is the difference between an AHA and a BHA?

Both BHA and AHA are categorized as hydroxy acids and are chemical exfoliants used in skincare to remove the buildup of dead skin and improve tone and texture. Salicylic Acid is a beta-hydroxy acid (or BHA) while Glycolic Acid and Lactic Acid are alpha-hydroxy acids (or AHAs).

The main difference is that BHA or Salicylic Acid, is lipid-soluble meaning that it is able to penetrate clogged pores. This makes it especially beneficial for those concerned with pore size or those with oily or blemish prone skin.

Is it safe to use BHA Exfoliating Essence everyday?

Salicylic Acid is an ingredient generally considered suitable for daily use, however it is recommended to start slowly and increase over time to allow your skin to adjust. Start with three days a week and then slowly increase to daily use as your skin allows.

Salicylic Acid is best suited for oily to normal skin and may be too drying or cause irritation for overly dry or sensitive skin.

What are the benefits of BHA with Niacinamide?

The major benefit of using a BHA with Niacinamide is that together they work to clear and minimize pores. BHA helps clear the sebum and dead skin cells that stretch and enlarge pores, while Niacinamide is effective in improving the appearance of pores by helping to regulate oil production, calm the skin and support a healthier skin barrier.

Will BHA and Niacinamide be too strong for my skin?

Our formula is pre-balanced with BHA and Niacinamide plus calming Allantoin for optimal performance and skin support. If you are looking to enhance effects with an additional Niacinamide booster, use a wet cotton round to apply the liquid BHA Exfoliating Essence after cleansing and toning, then add 3 drops of a Niacinamide booster to your moisturizer or Vitamin C for maximum results.

How is this different than a toner?

Though 2% BHA Liquid has a fluid texture similar to a toner, it's designed for a different purpose. Instead of acting like a traditional toner, it exfoliates dead skin, unclogs pores, and hydrates to enhance your skin's glow.

What are the benefits of Niacinamide on the skin?

Niacinamide is a multi-benefit ingredient that addresses many common skin concerns. While it’s best known for visibly minimizing pores, it can also help reduce the appearance of rough, uneven texture, enhance skin firmness, and diminish the look of fine lines and wrinkles. Additionally, it has been shown to improve discoloration and hyperpigmentation, while supporting the skin's barrier for optimal hydration and radiance.

What makes this Niacinamide Serum different?

While Niacinamide is powerful on its own, its effects are enhanced when combined with other ingredients. Our Niacinamide Serum contains Pro-Vitamin B5 and Hyaluronic Acid to deeply hydrate the skin and reinforce its barrier by locking in moisture and preventing transdermal water loss.

Our Niacinamide Serum is also boosted with Gotu Kola (Cica). Niacinamide and Gotu Kola both work to boost collagen production and improve skin's texture and elasticity, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and helping firmness. They also both contain brightening properties and combined help improve discoloration, fade dark spots and promote a radiant complexion.

Can I use Niacinamide Serum if I have acne-prone or upset skin?

Yes. Our Niacinamide Serum is packed with calming ingredients like Gotu Kola, Hyaluronic Acid, Licorice Root and Aloe that together with Niacinamide help regulate oil control, calm and soothe the skin, while offering deep hydration and a healthy skin barrier, making it a great anti-aging booster for acne-prone and sensitive skin.

What other ingredients can I boost with Niacinamide Serum?

Niacinamide is a powerhouse that can boost the effects of many other skincare ingredients. Niacinamide can help enhance the brightening and antioxidant effects of Vitamin C for a more even complexion. For acne-prone skin, Niacinamide can work as a calming partner to Salicylic Acid making an effective duo in treating breakouts without overdrying.

Should I use Niacinamide before or after the BHA Essence?

Niacinamide should be used after the BHA Exfoliating Essence. Allow the BHA Essence to dry. You can then add 2-3 drops of Niacinamide Serum to your daily moisturizer or treatment serum. Apply your regimen in order of thinnest to thickest texture for proper absorption. For daytime, always finish with SPF protection.

Should I use Niacinamide Serum with Vitamin C Serum?

Yes! Using a Niacinamide Serum along with a Vitamin C Serum can offer excellent results for brightening, skin texture, and overall anti-aging benefits. When layering together, apply Vitamin C first, then add 2-3 drops of Niacinamide to your moisturizer. In your AM routine, be sure to always finish with SPF protection.

For sensitive skin we recommend using Vitamin C in the morning and Niacinamide at night to avoid irritation. When introducing new serums, patch test and start adding in slowly and increase frequency as your skin responds.

Can I Use Niacinamide Serum morning and night?

Yes, you can absolutely benefit from using Niacinamide Serum in both your AM and PM routine. Niacinamide is a gentle, non-irritating ingredient that works well with other ingredients and is gentle enough for all skin types.

Morning: Apply after any treatment serum dries by adding 2-3 drops to your moisturizer before finishing with sunscreen.
Evening: Use after cleansing, toning, and exfoliating by adding 2-3 drops to your nighttime moisturizer.
